A controlled injury of the skin created by multiple tiny needles that plunge a millimeter below the surface is the basis of this skin-enhancement technique that, though new, has rapidly become a mainstay of the anti-aging technology offerings at Laser Light Treatment Center. It is similar in theory but more aggressive in delivery than microderm abrasion. Micro-needling also allows the injection of healing serums into the skin. The response to micro-needling injury, enhanced by serum injection, brings on a natural repair process that softens the skin, decreases wrinkles, promotes collagen growth, and helps to heal scars.
In addition to face and neck skin enhancements, we have had numerous and consistently positive outcomes with micro-needling of acne scars, keloid scars, stretch marks and other types of scars or blemishes. The procedure is usually accomplished with the help of a mild topical anesthetic. It takes about one-half hour to treat the face. Expect some redness or pinkness for 4 to 12 hours after the procedure, but otherwise there is no downtime, and there are no restrictions on activities.
