What is KYBELLA?

KYBELLA® (deoxycholic acid) injection is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness, sometimes referred to as “double chin”.

Is it FDA approved?

Kybella is FDA approved to permanently destroy fat cells. https://www.mykybella.com/  This ‘magic’ injectable is the very first of its kind to be authorized for use in dissolving under-the-chin fat, which is a very significant step in non-surgical fat removal. Kybella offers a quick, relatively pain free treatment, with little or no side effects.

Experts at the University of Texas SouthWestern Medical Center developed Kybella. They performed a number of treatments and patients reported improvements, both physically and mentally, after treatment. This is part of the reason the FDA was willing to approve Kybella, so that others could experience the same positive results with very little pain or downtime, seeing immediate positive changes in their daily lives.

How Does it Work?
Kybella (deoxycholic acid) causes an imbalance in the cells through cytosis, which forces excess water into the fat cells only, eventually causing the cell membrane to burst. The fat cells are destroyed, then metabolized and eliminated through normal body functions.

Kybella results last for years because the fat cells are completely destroyed. For patients who have these unwanted fat deposits, it is a fantastic non-surgical solution.

Benefits of the Procedure
The sculpting of the neck and chin area can dramatically change your look. As we age fat pockets can build up under the chin and conceal a strong jawline and beautiful neck. The double chin is one of the most obvious markers of the perception of aging. Dr. Erickson and staff now can offer a nonsurgical solution to help you achieve or restore the neck and jawline you desire.

Consultation
During your consultation, we will spend as much time as needed to decide the best procedure to treat your submental fat deposits. Dr. Erickson or Arlene Padilla, R.N. will review the process, what is to be expected after the procedure, and recovery recommendations.

Description of Procedure
During your treatment sessions, Dr. Erickson or our highly trained nurse, Arlene, will administer KYBELLA® into the fat under your chin using multiple injections.
A successful treatment will usually require more than one treatment session. Kybella treatments are given at least one month apart as a rule. Naturally, patients with more severe fat deposits will need more injections than those with moderate fat deposits.

After your procedure, you may experience mild swelling near and around the injection area. This is normal and subsides within a few days after treatment. Slight pain may also occur but is only temporary, with most patients experiencing relief after only one day. Immediately after the injection, the area becomes swollen and red, and feels warm. For a few days following, it may feel like there is extra fluid in the area but this will be re-absorbed in a few days.

Cost
During your consultation Dr. Erickson or Arlene will review typical treatment protocol. The cost of this varies from patient to patient depending on the amount of fat and the area being treated. Kybella is priced per vial, with @ 2-3 vials used per session. A price will be determined after a consultation. Remember to calculate the cost against less permanent solutions, or more costly surgery.
